Fashion & Flu

If there are two topics that concern people nowadays, it would be fashion and the flu. What better way for people who have no choice but to be in crowded places to combat the flu than by wearing a mask and a fashionable mask at that!

check out these fashion masks at flu fashion

its even available for the chic guys

A Birthday Pate

my good friend RM celebrated his birthday recently. hubby and i decided we would give him something we remember he expressly loved.

jo's funny wig

you see, in the midst of my dengue illness last yuletide season, i had dinner with my friends at mom & tina's and we ordered chicken liver pate while waiting for everyone to arrive. when RM tasted the pate, he absolutely loved it! so when hubby and i was wandering around Bacchus Epicerie, restraining ourselves from emptying our wallets on the cheeses and deli meat, we saw that that they carried chicken liver pate and we knew we had to get RM a bottle.

we were hoping this jar of chicken liver pate would live up to Bacchus Epicerie's philosophy of offering the best

i was so surprised that this jar was not from a distant european country. its actually from Pamora Farm in Abra (yes, Abra, Philippines).

Pamora Farm is a Filipino-European joint venture where a french breed of chickens are raised. They distribute chickens, eggs and home made pates. interestingly, they also offer eco tourism activities amidst the farm's surrounding country side including the Abra river and mountains.

ok, now im really jealous and bonking my head that i didnt get myself a jar!!! *bonk*
"hubby, when are we going back to rockwell?..."

A Delikatesse for Breakfast

i got up early this morning because i wanted to surprise hubby with a sandwich to take to work. i had gone grocery shopping the other day and found a pack of good looking pastrami on the grocery shelves which i decided to buy.

i asked our house help to cook scrambled eggs so that i could use it in the sandwich when i got up.

Pastrami-2

i took two slices of honey oat loaf, a slice of pastrami and some onion-scrambled eggs and wha-lah! its really a no brainer! hahaha! i didnt want to put any other condiments in the sandwich because i wanted the taste of the pastrami to dominate.

Pastrami-3

pastrami is one of the popular delicatessen meats and is usually made of red meat, salted, dried, seasoned, and smoked. i just love smoked meat and this is why i love this deli favorite.

Pastrami-4

after wrapping hubby's pastrami sandwich i went back to bed and pretended to be asleep. when hubby was all ready to go to work, he approached the bed to give me my morning goodbye kiss. i told him i'd see him later and when he was about to step out the door of our room, i told him not to forget his sandwich. he was pretty surprised that i had gotten up to make him sandwich but rolled over laughing when he found out i just "assembled" the sandwich (as someone else cooked the eggs). well, its the thought that counts! *wink*

oh yeah, i did "assemble" another pastrami sandwich for myself when i got up for real and happily munched on the wonderful peppery smoked meat. it was really a delicious breakfast!

Mingling with our Local Bunnies

Different people have different ways of zoning out from stress. for me, one of the few TV shows i like to watch when i feel too poofed for seriousness (aside from AI, and TMZ) is the show The Girls Next Door.

playboygirls

seriously ive never seen an actual playboy magazine in my life (and i dont think im too interested either) but this show just entertains me! hahaha! the three girls fuss about the smallest things and that really cracks me up.

So when hubby told me that he received an invitation to the May issue launching of Playboy Philippines last week, i was intrigued.

Playboy Philippines debuted April of last year and to this day, i have never seen an issue on magazine stands (i guess not for general patronage). i wondered how the bunnies in the Philippines looked compared to their foreign counterparts.

When Simple Can Mean Great

i still find it so amazing how sometimes, simple things turn out to be wonderfully great!

hubby has been suggesting we eat at Luk Yuen Noodle House for the longest time and because i have never really heard of this place from my friends, ive never taken a second look. the simple interiors and no fuss ambiance didnt really interest me (although in retrospect, i do remember that the restaurant always seemed to be full)

tonight i was craving for dimsum and because Luk Yuen was just outside the chapel where we heard mass today, hubby finally had a good reason to buy me dinner there.

Luk Yuen

the place was almost full when we got in and after entering the door, i waited for someone to usher us to our seats but hubby just went in, picked a table and it was ours. he frequented this restaurant a long time ago and knew his way around. hehehe!

our table was quickly set with dimsum saucers and chopsticks as the waiter handed us the menu.

it didnt take us too long to decide what we wanted to eat and within 5 minutes of taking our orders, our food were served! the service was fast and satisfactory for such a packed place!

we ordered hot and sour soup

Luk Yuen-2

this had just the right sourness to it. an order is actually big enough for two. you just have to ask for an extra bowl to share.

my always on the table siopao came next

Luk Yuen-3
the jumbo Hong Kong siopao is huge!

Luk Yuen-7
as we opened the bread, warm steam escaped the dimsum and revealed meat and egg filling

Luk Yuen-8
i love this siopao! the bread is sweet and soft and stuffed with loads of egg and meat! its sooo good! blogging about it makes me want another one! i definitely found a good place to get my favorite dimsum when im craving!

the pork siomai was served

Luk Yuen-4

this was so delicious!

the braised noodles with seafood came next
Luk Yuen-5
hubby was a little disappointed at how this dish looked because it seemed like a regular plate of noodles. but when we tasted it, our minds were blown away! the sauce was so good, and the shrimp plump and juicy, the veggies were crunchy and the mushrooms cooked just right for that soft, chewy goodness! im serious, this is a must order!

main course (yes, that was just for starters hahaha!) was supposted to be roasted duck but they were unfortunately out of stock so we settled for peppercorn spare ribs
Luk Yuen-6
this dish looked deliciously crunchy but it sort of ended there. although the flavors were great, the meat was a bit tough. it was too bad because this dish has a lot of potential. we had this with their yang chow fried rice, both of which were half spared for take away.

dessert was surprisingly picked by hubby (not the sweet tooth between the two of us)
Luk Yuen-9
the bowl of almond jelly with lychees was a great ending to our scrumptious meal because it was neither too sweet nor bland. it was a good thing too that we ordered just one because the bowl was packed with almond jelly from bottom to brim!

Luk Yuen-10

as we were winding down waiting for our bill, i was looking at the next table where a family of four was seated. i was pointing out to hubby that they ordered less than we did! i had to snicker when i realized that they even had enough for a whole bag of take away! ooohh, i feel like such a hog!

when the waiter handed us our bill in less than 5 minutes after we asked for it, i was surprised that it was under P900! seriously! ok, i admit it, i love this place!! not only were most of the dishes we ordered a hit and so affordable, service is fast and efficient!

my mom would love this place. ill have to take her here on her next visit to manila! i cant help but think back when she used to give me lessons in life which i now apply (or at least try to) in my daily affairs.

you were right mom, simple could actually be great! HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

Celebrations and Champions

i think every pinoy feels like a champion today after manny proved himself truly as the pound for pound champion! yay!!!

we got up early this morning and headed for rockwell. no, not to watch the fight in the cinema but to get a taste of myron's brunch.
myrons-brunch

i read about myron's brunch from one of my favorite food blog dessert comes first. after her review, brunch at myrons greenbelt became a regular and i was planning to take a trip to get a taste of the new hype until i learned that myron's at rockwell would serve the now famous brunch. i was thrilled and placed our reservation. when asked if we had any seating preference, i said "anywhere with good lighting" *wink*

while waiting for our orders, lovely couple Drs EAC & DC walked in the restaurant and we happily greeted dra a wonderful birthday! they came to celebrate dra's bday by having a delicious hearty breakfast, and knowing that this couple eat at good restaurants all the time, i knew hubby and i were at the right place!

hubby ordered the big pinoy breakfast.
myrons-brunch-8
we thought this was a good idea so that we could sample which among the pinoy choices of myron's brunch would become our favorite.

myrons-brunch-11
it had angus beef tapa, chicken tocino, lamb and chicken adobo and daing na bangus with fried rice and 2 eggs (yuuum!!!)

myrons-brunch-12
my favorite was the the lamb adobo and the angus beef tapa. the chicken tocino was good too and the daing na bangus had a unique marinade...ok it was all good! *giggle* hubby loved the angus beef tapa and daing na bangus. the dish was so large that hubby left more than bite size pieces of each as he could not stuff anymore down his tummy!!! talk about an order thats well worth it!

even before i placed our reservation, i had made up my mind on what to order. eggs benedict of course! but upon reviewing myron's brunch menu i saw several versions. traditional, southern, irish... i just had to ask what the differences were.

i knew the traditional version had ham and runny eggs on english muffin with the magic hollandaise sauce but this morning i learned that the irish version had corned beef hash, the southern version had susage and, well, there were i think, 2 other versions but my imagination was already fired up with the thought of sausage, and runny eggs!

so southern eggs benedict it was, and i was not disappointed...
myrons-brunch-7

the egg yolks looked so full
myrons-brunch-9

and the pretty salad with roasted tomatoes (my favorite) looked yum!
myrons-brunch-10

i could not wait to puncture the poached egg.

watch the yolk as it ran down to bathe the sausage and the english muffin
myrons-brunch-14
myrons-brunch-15
myrons-brunch-16

it was so delicious! the sausage had that spicy touch to it which was balanced by the poached egg and hollandaise sauce. yuuuummmmyyy!

myrons-brunch-13
this dish is going to top my list for a long time...hmmm, just thinking about it makes me want to make another reservation!!!

after savoring our brunch, and my 3rd cup of drip coffee
myrons-brunch-6

we were ready to ask for our bill. hubby and i both agreed that this was such a satisfying breakfast, a wonderful way to start our day.

our waiter came back, without our bill and told us that our breakfast would be taken cared of by the other table. surprised, i beamed at hubby. wow this was turning out to be a wonderful day indeed! Thank you to our generous benefactor!
rm_598
you made our day!!!
just another reason to celebrate!
